Breathing for Health and Relaxation, Level I with Alexis Pierce

This gentle class is designed to enhance your health and vitality through the ancient practice of yogic breathing (pranayama). Using specific breathing techniques, you will increase your body's capacity to breath and heighten your awareness of the breathe. This class is an in-depth exploration of the fundamentals of breathing and involves discussion, gentle movement, and a short daily home practice between classes. No previous experience is needed. Equipment is provided. Preregister at or by emailing $50 / 4 weeks.


Alexis Pierce has over 700 hours of training and is a certified 500-hour Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance (RYT 500). She draws from a variety of lineages, including Iyengar, Ashram Yoga and the gentle exploratory style of Donna Farhi. She began her Yoga journey in 2002 on a study abroad program in Mumbai, India, began teaching in 2008, and completed a 200-hour Yoga teacher training in 2011 with Nadia Toraman. Inspired by the connection many women make with their bodies during pregnancy, Alexis trained as a birth Doula and pregnancy Yoga teacher with Janice Clarfield. She then pursued a 160-hour advanced training in gentle, mindful Yoga with Donna Farhiin New Zealand. In 2012, Alexis completed a 500-hour training on the subtler aspects of Yoga - meditation, pranayama, mantra, and energy-focused asana - with Ashram Yoga in New Zealand. During her time with Ashram Yoga, she was given the Yoga name Lilashakti, meaning the Power of Divine Play. Please feel free to call her Lilashakti.
